Germany is recognized as number one in logistics, but far behind with railway investments. Hundreds of new distribution centers are built, but nearly all without a railway siding. As a result, cargo volume on trains decrease continuously. Railway bottlenecks will be hardly closed if volumes on trains won´t increase again.
Consequently, the question arises, how to change this negative trend?
We all realize that the traffic increase on roads can´t go ahead. Will we able to change this? Who if not we as logistics experts will have influence on this? Let us not just wait for Deutsche Bahn, even though we may had bad experiences in the past.
The Corona Crisis demonstrated that changes are possible. Let us start a new initiative now to relocate cargo. The gratefulness of society for releasing the roads from heavy cargo traffic will be huge. For shippers which will be recognized as sustainable companies, this could be a great chance as well.
